We offer a Heart and Stroke ACLS program including full certification and recertification courses. This course is intended for medical students, residents, staff physicians, nurses and health disciplines staff.

The BLS training course is an interactive team-building program that is designed to train individuals to respond to cardiac arrests with a particular focus on Unity Health's site specific code blue protocols. Emphasis is placed on early recognition of a cardiac arrest, delivery of good quality compressions and understanding the importance of early defibrillation for an adult.

These interprofessional simulations happen in situ (i.e. clinical units/areas) and help teams understand their unique responses to Code Blues, identify learning opportunities for staff, and identify any latent safety threats that can be proactively addressed.

Timed to the beginning of each postgraduate medical block, Critical Care residents rotating into St. Michael’s Hospital are given the opportunity to practice key airway and access skills.

These in situ simulations allow the interprofessional team to identify and train for emerging clinical needs. Lead by formal and informal leaders within both emergency departments, the in situ simulations allow the teams to train in real clinical spaces with actual equipment, leading to both learning outcomes and identification of quality improvement opportunities.

This weekly course provide opportunity for the interprofessional emergency department staff and residents to practice non-technical and team-based skills.

NRP is an interprofessional educational program that is administered by the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS). Modules and a quiz are completed online through the CPS, while the practice portions are hosted in our clinical spaces. These practical sessions teach individuals and teams how to resuscitate newborn babies.

The simulation program supports new nursing hires across Unity Health by hosting a variety of different skill and critical thinking focused simulation opportunities, including AGMP PPE training, simulated medical emergencies, and restraint training.

These interprofessional Code Blue team training sessions occurs at least once a month to support medical residents, nurses and respiratory therapists practice team communication and best practices in resuscitation.

This interprofessional session is for any regulated health professional that has the controlled act to suction through either legislation or medical directive. This session offers both skills station components as well as simulated scenarios to support clinical decision-making.

Healthcare simulation involves recreating clinical experiences to replicate substantial aspects of reality in an iterative and interactive fashion. In addition to focusing on healthcare provider education, translational simulation has emerged as a technique to design or test systems and physical spaces with the goal of enhancing healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
